Jacob Marley
“I wear the chain I forged in life.”
Marley dragged, said ponderous chain, from the undiscovered country to Scrooge’s bedroom. He was doomed to wander through the world observing the hardness thereof in regretful impotence.
Yet there he was, offering Scrooge, if not comfort, then a way to be transformed.
Varieties of faith notwithstanding, this time of the year, appears to be the one time of the year when we actually try to be the people we wish we were.
“Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead," said Scrooge. "But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change.”
With goodwill to all: the best of the Season, a prosperous New Year, and success in new courses.
Welcome to the Revolution.
